Jon Backstrom
I started in the Insurance Industry in 2006. On June 1, 2019, I opened Backstrom Insurance Group as an Independent Agency with the premise that Clients Come First! We focus on Personal Lines of Home, Auto, Life, and Boat Insurance and Business Insurance products customized to your unique business needs.
I am a native of Minnesota but moved to the South Bend-Mishawaka Area in 1992. I now call South Bend home where I live with my wife Debbie. My 3 adult children are overachievers, and we are getting ready to welcome our first grandchild.
Fun Facts: My college degree is in Bowling Lanes Management, and prior to insurance I managed bowling centers in South Bend and Elkhart. I am a BIG fan of all things Minnesota Sports, including the Vikings, Twins, Wild and Gophers! When I’m not working, I am probably out fishing somewhere.
Jami Potter
Hello! I am Jami. I was born and raised in Mishawaka. I have been married to my husband Matt since 2015. I have 3 amazing children, Lizzi, Joas, and Taylor.
I spent my first 12 years out of high school working in the Carpenter’s Union local 413. Once my oldest went to school, I decided it was time for a career change so I could be the kind of mom I wanted to be. I have been in the insurance industry since 2016, joined the BIG team in 2020 and have never looked back. I absolutely love what I do and the relationships I build.
In 2022, my husband and I made a very difficult decision to pull the kids out of school and thus, my homeschool journey began. I was very nervous about what life would look like for my family and for my clients. Fast forward to today, I am happy to say that I have found a happy balance between the roles of being a working homeschool mom/wife. The best part is showing my kids that anything is possible with hard work and dedication (and LOTS of prayer!).
When I can find some spare time (ha-ha!), I enjoy woodworking, playing board games, anything outdoors, and continuously finding new projects at my house.
Becky McIntyre
I am new to the BIG team, joining early 2024 as Production Assistant. Essentially, I assist the agents with getting your data to the companies to work on getting you the best protection within your budget. I also manage lots of odds and ends projects remotely for the agency so we can keep providing the best client experience.
In college I studied art, specifically Photography and Graphic Design. I had a dream to do magazine design but fell out of love with Graphic Design in college. I started photographing weddings, family and children’s portraits and loved it, so I started my small business in 2011 and have been photographing families ever since. After college I started working for a local credit union and then transitioned to the insurance department and got my license in 2016. I took a break from insurance after our first son was born and COVID hit. After a couple years away from the insurance world, Jon recruited me to join the BIG team.
My husband and I met in high school and were married in 2016, and we have two very active little boys who keep us on our toes. I don’t really have much spare time these days, but I try to make time to play in my garden, travel, try new restaurants and enjoy a good craft beer.
Sarah Clark
Hello! As the executive assistant for the BIG team, my role is to manage the office, assist the agents, and assist you with questions, policy changes, and even claims. When you call or stop into the agency office, I will most likely be the one to greet you and get you pointed in the right direction.
While attending Indiana University in Bloomington, I studied Journalism with a concentration in Music. Following graduation, I worked for two years as a staff reporter with an area newspaper. I then spent 15 years working in the world of banking, before joining the insurance industry and the BIG team in January 2022. My passion has always been to help others, with a mission to provide quality customer service.
I have been married to my husband, Brian, since 2007. He is a firefighter for the City of South Bend, and has always been my hero! We have one son, Cameron, who is the light of our lives!
As a member of the PTO at my son’s school, I enjoy volunteering for various events throughout the year. I especially love watching my son run for the Cross Country team. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, crafting on my Cricut, and watching college softball.
